Welding tanks are used in various purposes on residential, industrial and rural water system storage and many more. Some of the things to consider in choosing welding tanks are the quality of the material used for the tank, the price of the tank, the construction type, the design and the suitability of the tank material.
Two types of welded steel tanks
Shop Fabricated Welded Steel Tanks
These kind of welding tanks are constructed and completed on shops and later on shipped to the site. The shop fabricated tanks are sand-blasted, painted and prepared for shipment and after all the necessary procedures have been done, the tanks are then sent to the sites for installation. The shop fabricated welded steel tanks are usually limited to 16 feet or 5 meters in diameter for easy transportation.
Field Installed Welded Steel Tanks
These kind of welding tanks are larger compared to the shop fabricated ones and even if the construction of the tanks are done on the shops as well, the tanks are constructed per section and then later on welded together on the field. The additional connections and peripherals and final paintings are done on the site too.
However, both kinds of welding tanks are installed above the ground and are used as storage for various products. Other additional equipments mounted with the tanks are the simple or complex connections like piping systems, valves, pumps and more.
In terms of designs, there are also variations when it comes to welding tanks. The tanks could either be concrete, fiberglass, field welded, factory welded and bolted steel. Included in the bolted steel categories are the welding tanks made of carbon steel, glass-lined steel and stainless steel.
Other things to take into account in purchasing or designing welding tanks are the following:
– The amount of material to be stored on the tank
– The best and most economical materials to be used in constructing the tank
– Would there be a need for system interface and the configuration type of the tank
– Would there be cathodic protection requirements or corrosion allowance
It is also important to take note of the accessories that might be needed along with the tank like perimeter guardrails, heaters, caged ladders, access manways, agitators, spiral staircases, pipings, maintenance access platforms, insulation, liquid gauges and alarms, Drawoffs, inlet-outlet connections, vent connections and so much more.
Welded tanks compared to other tanks are also more resistant to fire and vandalism, easier to clean and maintain and are truly dependable and durable.
